Men's Health Week

International Men's Health Week is celebrated every year around the world and it is an important opportunity to highlight men's health and what it means to be healthy.

Men’s health is about wellness, not illness. It's about being in a state of good health in multiple aspects of life; physical health, emotional health, spiritual health, social health, environmental health & mental health. Wellness can be determined by your activities, choices, influences & lifestyle that lead to being healthy on a holistic level.

Mental health is an important part of your overall health and well-being. You need good mental health to help you get through life’s ups and downs and to have healthy relationships with others and to enjoy life.

Mental health problems are common but it is certainly not a sign of weakness. It can take courage to admit there’s a problem and to seek some help. Your mental health is like your physical health, the quicker you get onto it, the better it will be.

There are a lot of things can harmfully affect your mental and emotional well-being. Some of the most common issues are relationship problems, separation or divorce, financial stress, work pressure, unemployment or drug and alcohol use.

There are a number of things that you can do to help support yourself to be your best and have good health

  • eat well

  • get plenty of sleep

  • exercise regularly

  • spend time with your friends and family

  • talk about how you feel with people you trust

  • do activities you enjoy

  • take time to relax

One form of exercise that will be beneficial to your overall health and fitness is boxing. When you nail a boxing combination, it’s like the perfect golf swing and you will just want to keep going back.

Boxing will not only improve your upper and lower body strength but it is also a great cardiovascular workout with many of our enerG+ classes involving jogging, skipping and ladder floor work.

Instructors will teach you a sequence of moves which include punching, weaving and ducking which will utilise your hand-eye coordination, timing and balance skills. As an all over body work out, it will certainly burn those calories and will lift your mood.

Boxing can also lower the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and diabetes and can strengthen your bone density and muscles. Plus it just feels great to punch a bag and let off a little steam!

So if you are looking for that something new or different to try, why not give it a go and reap the benefits.
