Staying accountable to your goals
June 12, 2018

Winter has well and truly set in this week. It’s wet. It’s cold. It’s miserable. Who wants to get out of bed and hit the gym when it’s like this? I know I don’t! I’d much rather stay in bed with a coffee and a good book. But doing that isn’t going to help me reach my goals. So, what do you do when motivation is at an all time low? You need to take a step back, remember why you are doing this and stay accountable to yourself!
So, what is accountability?
“Accountability is the acknowledgment of responsibility for your actions with the obligation to report, explain, and be responsible for the resulting consequences.”
So how can we create accountability for ourselves when it comes to working out? Here are some tips to help!
Recruit a friend or join a team
Friends are great when it comes to creating accountability. Having that someone to push you to get up and get moving. Having someone to remind you that even though it feels hard now, it will get easier. Our Winter Warriors challenge is the perfect example of this! Having a whole team behind you makes it all seem so much easier.
Start small
There is no point setting yourself huge unachievable goals. That is just setting yourself up for failure. Start small by committing to one class a week or making small changes to your diet. Once you’ve created the habit, build from there. As the saying goes, slow and steady wins the race.
Write it down
Write your goals down. Make lists. Create a vision board. If you can see your goals in front of you, its easier to stay on track and be accountable to yourself.
Make sure you enjoy it!
There is no point setting the goal of being able to run 10kms if you hate running! Make sure you are setting goals that you actually want to achieve. You need to enjoy what you are doing in order to make it a long term achievable goal. It’s really hard to stay accountable if you don’t even want to be doing it.
Put your money where your mouth is
Have you been eyeing off a new pair of runners? Or do you want to go on a trip? Well use that as your motivation to keep moving. Start a money box and every time you do a workout or achieve one of your goals, put some money in there. Once you see the money building up,
it will get easier and easier to stay on track and soon you will have your reward!
So stay accountable to yourself and smash those goals! You've got this!
